S10 E16: 'How to grow wellbeing skills'
with Professor Thomas Roulet

Monday 18 August 2025

Headshot of Thomas speaking at the World Economic Forum, wearing a blue shirt, wine-colour bow tie and dark blazer.

About this episode

We take a fresh look at wellbeing at work and why wellbeing policies and interventions have had only limited success today in terms of supporting employees’ mental wellbeing.

I’m joined by Thomas Roulet, Professor of Organisational Sociology and Leadership at Cambridge Judge Business School, and a leading voice on the future of work and workplace wellbeing. His new business book Wellbeing Intelligence: Building better mental health at work, coauthored with Kiran Bhatti, came out in July 2025.

We explore what wellbeing at work really means, why it’s so hard for employers to get this right, and how “wellbeing intelligence” can transform organisations and workforces. Thomas shares insights on the link between work and mental health, what employers are doing well—and where they’re falling short—plus practical advice for employees, managers, and leaders.
